About Stroudwater Textile Trust
The Stroudwater Textile Trust, a charitable company limited by guarantee, is committed to promoting a lively textile culture where the heritage of the past meets contemporary textile art.
The Trust was established in 1999 consolidating ten years of volunteer activity in the preservation and restoration of historic textile machinery, provision of educational materials and organising regular mill tours.
At Dunkirk Mill centre, with its impressive waterwheel, the finishing of the famous West of England cloth with working historic textile machinery can be seen and at Gigg Mill is the weaving workshop.
Through its programme of events the Trust increases awareness of the area's Textile history but also looks to the future through promoting contemporary art, craft and textile skills. The annual Textile Festival attracts top international contemporary artists and the Skills Centres offer a variety of learning opportunities.
